Helping Families of Special Needs Kids Plan SENSEational Disney World Trips

Welcome to Mouse Ears Therapy

If you are the family member of a child with special needs and would like to make a smart, realistic plan to visit Walt Disney World, then you are in the right place!

Do you want to plan a trip to see Mickey but wonder how Disney can accomodate your child’s needs? Or, do you worry your child’s sensory processing issues will make it difficult to manage all the sights, sounds and input that comes with a theme park vacation? I understand. I am a pediatric occupational therapist to special needs kids and I understand sensory processing AND Walt Disney World.

My mission with Mouse Ears Therapy is to help make Disney doable for families with special needs kiddos. I have worked with wide variety of diagnoses and a whole spectrum of personalities! I’m taking my two passions, children with special needs and Walt Disney World and have put them both in a creative platform so I can help YOU, the parent.

My goal is to empower you and inform you on how to create the best plan for you and your family using my knowledge of working of with kids and managing trips to Disney. Let’s work together to create a S.M.A.R.T plan. This analogy explains the type of articles, tips, tricks and help I would like to give you the parent to make the best trip possible.

A S.M.A.R.T plan for your Walt Disney World Trip

Sensory

Sensory processing dysfunction is a huge component of your child’s needs when planning your trip. WDW has an overload of sights, smells, sounds, movement and well… overstimulation. I want to help you plan ahead for preventing too much of a good thing. I also want to help you know what to do and where to go if this does happen.

Magical

I want to give you ALL my tips and tricks for planning a Disney vacation that helps make it fun for EVERYONE in your party. I will also provide dining and resort reviews, runDisney advice and reports as well as cost comparison for budgeting. How about some insight into DVC (Disney Vacation Club) and being an anannual passholder? Yep, we can talk about that too!

Actionable

What is the point of planning if you can’t put it to good use? I want to supply you with strategies you can implement before your trip, such as planning what resorts and dining would be the best fit for your family, as well as make a park touring plan based on your child's needs and preferences.

Realistic

Can I guarantee some hiccups won’t happen along the way? Sorry, no can do. But, I will do my best to make sure you have as much information as I can give. We will also gain some insight from other parents who have already made the trip to WDW with their special needs kids and any advice they can give.

Take It Along

I want to provide you not only actionable knowledge for pre-trip planning, but also visual supports for your child such as maps, infographics and videos for your child to utilize. Children with special needs often respond better to visual supports rather than auditory.
